Football is a sport followed by millions of people across the world. And gone are the days when football was thought to be a game of extravagant and school dropouts. Currently, you will find footballers who have had forms of education.

Take a look at these three highly educated footballers.

Vincent Kompany

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has graduated with a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree.

The Belgian, who has won two Premier League titles, was awarded a merit grade and achieved a distinction with a score of 72 on his dissertation project after studying at Alliance Manchester Business School on their part-time Global MBA.

Didier Drogba

Didier Drogba, an Ivorian professional football (soccer) player who was Côte d’Ivoire’s all-time leader in goals scored in international matches and was twice named the African Footballer of the Year (2006, 2009).

His parents wanted him to get an education so bad that he was banned from football for some time for failing a school year and repeating. Therefore, his highest level of education was in College, where he got an Accounting Degree at 21. He got his degree at the University of Maine.

Juan Mata

Juan Mata is one of the most senior players at Manchester United. Apart from having a great playing career, he is also a highly-educated scholar. The 31-year-old has two bachelor’s degrees from the Universidad Camilo Jose Cela in Madrid. One is in Sports Science and the other in Marketing.

He earned both degrees while he was rocking on the pitch for his former sides Valencia and Chelsea.

Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard is a Premier League legend and former England international. He is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders across Europe in his day.

His three league titles with Chelsea speak for themselves, but what may surprise many was that he graduated from Essex's Brentwood School at just 17 years old after receiving 11 GCSEs to place him among the most educated football players ever.
