For a variety of causes, people develop drug and alcohol addictions. Most accuse unhappy upbringings and unwholesome relationships, while others accuse bad behaviour. Even the biggest stars and celebrities in the world have been victims of addiction, which has no boundaries when it comes to those who are affected.

We identified superstars on this list whose drug and alcohol abuse led them down a perilous drug and alcohol-filled path. Here are five images of famous people before and after using drugs.

1. Fergie

Fergie, real name Stacy Ann Ferguson, was a talented Black Eyed Peas performer. With the hip hop trio, she had her first success on the charts with songs like "I Gotta Feeling" and "Meet Me Halfway." Before joining the Black Eyed Peas, Fergie was a member of an all-girl band named Wild Orchid. Before departing the band in 2002, she was a member for ten years.

The singer admitted to having a Wild Orchid addiction in a 2006 Time Magazine interview. Her early years with The Black Eyed Peas are mentioned. She referred to her former as "the worst guy she has had to break up with." She claimed that part of her addiction resulted from having to suppress her feelings as a child actor at a young age.

2. Dennis Rodman

NBA forward Dennis Rodman was a legend. While playing for the Pistons, Spurs, Mavericks, and Lakers, he garnered five NBA Championships, seven ALL-Defensive First Team nods, and two NBA Defensive Player of the Year honours. Rodman's drug and alcohol abuse came to light after his 2006 basketball retirement.

A year later, while he was filming Celebrity Apprentice, his family and friends mounted an intervention on live television. After a widely reported trip to North Korea, during which his spokesman claimed he had consumed more alcohol than ever, he went to treatment in January 2014.

3. Macaulay Culkin

In 1989's Uncle Buck, Macaulay Culkin became well-known. At the time, he was nine. In addition to fan favourites like Home Alone 1 and 2: Lost in New York, he was cast in blockbusters like My Girl, The Good Son, and Richie Rich.

By 2004, Culkin, then 24 years old, had gone years without landing a significant role in a hit film. He made headlines that year, but only to his detriment. Marijuana, Alprazolam, and Clonazepam misdemeanour possession charges were brought against Culkin by Oklahoma City police. He entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to three years in prison with a suspended sentence and nearly $6,000 in fines.
