Odds for Suns Next Ownership Released

The Phoenix Suns will (eventually) no longer be under the ownership of Robert Sarver following his announcement of intentions to sell the team.

Since 2004, Sarver has held a majority 35% stake in the team. Now, nearly two decades later, that looks to change.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski suggests Phoenix, under new ownership, will become a top free agent destination.

"The Suns are considered an extremely desirable franchise in the marketplace and will have no shortage of high-level ownership candidates. As a warm weather destination in West, league executives always believed this could be a monster free agent destination with right ownership," said Wojnarowski.

So, who will take over his role?

Plenty of recognizable names are found on BetArizona.com's latest list of potential owners, from Larry Fitzgerald to Alice Cooper:

Taking away the field, Suns minority owner Jahm Najafi has the best odds to land the new role. Christopher Boan explained why:

"It is safe to say that Najafi has the chops to become the first Iranian-American to own a professional sports team, with a net worth of $3.5 billion and a position inside the Suns’ current ownership group.

"Najafi is the leading minority shareholder in the franchise and called for Sarver to sell the team earlier this month.

"Najafi would be a natural fit to follow Karl Eller, Colangelo, and Sarver as owner of the Suns, as he has deep roots to the Phoenix area and a natural commitment to building on the success of the franchise over the past few years.

"It is logical to consider Najafi would want to be the man in charge for a team in the mix in Arizona NBA betting for the league title."

The sale process could take quite a long time, as there's no clear timetable for when we should expect new ownership to take over.
