Goalie Justin Kapelmaster and forward Brendan Hoffman are added by the ECHL team

The Reading Royals have announced the signings of goalie Justin Kapelmaster and forward Brendan Hoffmann.

Kapelmaster, 26, went 7-6-2 with a .894 save percentage and 3.43 goals-against average in 17 ECHL games with the Worcester Railers (one game), Jacksonville Icemen (five) and Indy Fuel (11) last season.

His overall record in the ECHL is 14-18-13 with a .908 save percentage and 2.85 goals-against average. He played in 19 games with Allen and two with Fort Wayne in 2020-21. He also played two games that season with Cleveland in the AHL, going 2-0 with a .933 save percentage and 1.95 GAA.

In college, Kapelmaster, a Coral Springs, Fla., native, played three seasons at Ferris State and one at Robert Morris.

Hoffmann, 20, will be entering his first pro season.

The 6-3 native of Charlotte, N.C., had 20 goals and 14 assists last season in 63 games for the Erie Otters of the OHL.

The Royals previously had announced the signing of forward Zane Franklin.

The 23-year-old had nine goals and 23 assists in 60 games with Allen in the ECHL in 2020-21. Last season, he had six goals and 20 assists in 20 games for the University of Saskatchewan in the USports.

Reading acquired Franklin’s rights as part of a future considerations trade made with Allen on March 31.
