Man United looked to include Andreas Pereira in swap deal for Flamengo star before Fulham transfer
However, during the recent transfer window, the 26-year-old was sold to Fulham for a fee in the region of £10 million plus add-ons. Pereira was on loan at the Mengao in the previous campaign. And the Red Devils would have allowed a permanent transfer in exchange for Flamengo’s 21-year-old midfielder.
Gomes is now attracting interest from Liverpool. The Merseysiders are one of the clubs looking at the 21-year-old defensive midfielder’s signature. It remains to be seen whether United are able to rival other clubs for the Brazilian.
Pereira permanently left the Manchester-based club in the summer of 2022. The 26-year-old had signed for the Red Devils in 2012 from PSV Eindhoven. However, the Brazilian failed to establish himself at the Old Trafford side.
The attacking midfielder spent a couple of seasons on loan in Spain with Granada and Valencia. Pereira also played for Lazio in the Serie A in the 2020/21 campaign.
In the recent transfer window, the 26-year-old was one of the several players in the engine room that left. United also parted ways with Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.
To replenish Erik ten Hag’s squad, the Red Devils added a couple of fresh new faces in the midfield. Eriksen arrived on a free transfer and Casemiro made a big-money move from Real Madrid.
The Danish and Brazilian have added depth to the engine room. The two have also evidently increased competition for places, which has had an effect on the rest of our players.
However, Eriksen and Casemiro are both 30. Gomes is one for the future. The Brazilian might not be established, but the 21-year-old has years on his side. And a swap with Pereira would have been a good deal for United.
