Imagine if you could predict the future. What would you do with your newfound abilities? An NBA GM would probably have a few ideas.

Would you make the world a better place? You could, in theory, stop wars before they started. Your ability to change the world would be unprecedented.

On the other hand, depending on what type of person you are, you might make a lot of money. We won’t judge you.

On the other hand, if you’re a diehard NBA fan, you might use your powers to make decisions for your favorite team. It would be a niche use of your abilities – maybe you’d be better off making it a side hustle.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Zach LaVine, Chicago Bulls & Miami Heat Updates

Two teams that could certainly use clairvoyance right now are the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls. They’ll both be hoping to win big in 2022-23, but success isn’t guaranteed for either.

In the event that either is looking for a midseason change of direction in 2022-23, here’s a blockbuster that would send Zach LaVine to the Heat.

Chicago Bulls Receive: G Kyle Lowry, G Tyler Herro, 2023 First-Round Pick (MIA), 2027 First-Round Pick (MIA), 2028 First-Round Pick (Swap – MIA)
Miami Heat Receive: G Zach LaVine

Of course, if you were a Miami Heat fan, you’d probably use your psychic abilities to see how Tyler Herro’s career unfolded.

As of now, it could go several ways. Some see a potential star in Herro, while others see a long-term sixth man. Realistically, he’s among the most polarizing players in the NBA at the moment.

It makes sense. Herro’s ability to hit tough shots is among the best in the NBA. On the other hand, he’s not known to create easy ones – for himself or others.

Given that he’s not a strong defender, he makes for a difficult player to evaluate in the aggregate.

Soon, that could be a problem for the Heat. After all, Herro is in a contract year. Soon, they’ll need to decide exactly what they see in Herro.

Committing star money to a player they aren’t confident will reach stardom would be a difficult decision to face.

Could they simply avoid making it?

Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal

We already mentioned that this deal wouldn’t happen until mid-season. In all actuality, it couldn’t. LaVine got a raise this summer, so he can’t be traded until January 15.

If the Heat are rolling by then, they’ll probably pass on this deal. After all, they’re parting with a lot to make it happen. Moreover, if Herro is making good on his most optimistic projections, they’ll probably opt to extend him too.

On the other hand, if neither of those things is happening, the situation in South Beach could get pretty interesting.

After all, Jimmy Butler is 33. The Heat are firmly in win-now mode. If they don’t look like contenders by the midseason mark, don’t be surprised if they shake it up. In that event, this deal ought to make for significant improvements.

LaVine is probably the best offensive player on their team from day one. Between him, Butler, and Bam Adebayo, the Heat would suddenly have one of the best trios in the entire league.

Of course, that’s what the Bulls were hoping to achieve by putting Nikola Vucevic and DeMar DeRozan with LaVine. What exactly are they doing here?

Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal

In one word: rebuilding.

The Bulls have made a lot of efforts to shift into win-now mode in recent years. It’s commendable. At the same time, it’s not hard to see a ceiling with this core.

After all, the Bulls won 46 games last year. What moves have they made this offseason to inspire hope for improvement? If the Bulls are surprisingly competitive by January, this deal won’t interest them either.

On the other hand, if they’re in the middle of the pack again, they may have to start asking themselves some hard questions.

On the other hand, it may not be such a difficult decision to make. Between Lonzo Ball, Patrick Williams, and Coby White, the Bulls have some quality players under 25. Throw Herro and some draft capital into that mix, and they could have the makings of a solid rebuild in place.

They won’t be able to tell the future, but at least it’ll look bright.
