Chicago Bulls 2022-23 Player Profile: Ayo Dosunmu
Ayo Dosunmu was the surprise of the 2021 NBA Draft. Well, maybe he wasn't that much of a surprise to Chicago locals or University of Illinois fans. But nonetheless, NBA fans who were not familiar with Dosunmu got to know all about him in his first season with the Chicago Bulls.
The Illini product burst onto the scene last season and earned All-NBA Rookie Second Team honors. With all the injuries that plagued the Bulls last season, Dosunmu stepped up in a big way when called upon.
In his rookie year, Dosunmu averaged 10.9 PPG, 5.4 APG, and 3.6 RPG. Not bad for a second-round pick, huh? It doesn't look like much will change heading into year two for Dosunmu either. Starting point guard Lonzo Ball will miss the start of the season due to a knee injury. That may thrust Dosunmu into the starting role once again.
Dosunmu has a high basketball IQ and a fantastic feel for the game. He's put in a ton of work this offseason to improve. Since the 2021-22 season ended, Dosunmu has made a conscious effort to train with his teammates to build chemistry.
The 2022-23 season is also a contract year for the former second-round pick. He's in his hometown, playing with teammates that genuinely seem to enjoy each other, and they all have a chip on their shoulders. If Ayo Dosunmu is the starting point guard on opening night for the Chicago Bulls, the league may be surprised again at what this kid can do.
