James Franklin lists major questions facing Penn State entering 2022 season

James Franklin is not shy to admit his concerns facing Penn State. In fall camp, Franklin said the biggest question marks with Penn State are the offensive line, safety position, the running game, the linebacker corp, and the punting game.

Penn State has to replace 3 starters on the offensive line from last season from a unit that was not very productive in 2021. The offensive line gave up 34 sacks last season and caused a lack of productivity in the rushing game.

Last season, Penn State ranked 118th in the nation, second to last in the B1G, in rushing yards per game (107.8). While the offensive line caused problems in productivity, there wasn’t much impact from the running back group.

Penn State has to replace 2 of its 3 starters at the linebacker corp with the middle linebacker being a main concern for the off-season. Sophomore Tyler Elsdon and freshman Kobe King are players who have shown their potential in fall camp and are highlighted by coach Franklin.

Senior Keaton Ellis and redshirt freshman Jaylen Reed are players who are competing for one of the starting safety spots, outside of Ji’Ayir Brown. The biggest concern to coach Franklin is finding a starting punter in fall camp.
